New album coming up

The new songs of the Transmission I EP are simply a taste of the vast collection of material in which Wilson and his band of musical mystics have feverishly been crafting for more than two years. Nearly 30 songs are still in the making, with their full-length release slated for 2009.

Introducing the new bandmembers

Chris, Josiah and Eric stopped with the band April 2007. It was a hard time for Gabriel. He didn't want to stop with this beautiful band. So Gabriel looked for new members. He found his little brother Joey who played in a band called the Dead Melodies for years, but when he could play in the Listening he stopped with this band. The same happened with Gabriels good friend Nolan who played in the Harps. Now the Listening works on a new record!

All this time God was with them. It is good to see that in the most dangerous time, and the most frightening time, God is with them all.

Gabriel: For a while now, I've had the privilege of making some pretty special records with some of my best friends. Collaborations have been the very essence of every band i've worked with...and I've loved it. Around the turn of 2005, I was hanging out at The Glitter Room in Longview, WA... It was a particularly rough night, and i was feeling inspired. I grabbed my grandpa's old 1939 Martin Acoustic, opened up a session in ProTools, and recorded a couple of songs. I didn't think much of them, until a couple of days later when Chris (guitarist for The Listening) called me and said, "Dude...those songs were amazing. Like, classics. You gotta do a whole record like this." I wasn't ready to do something like that until January 2006. I was living in Astoria, OR... one of the most beautiful places in the world. Astoria is like a tiny San Francisco...a city on a hill, looking out over a beautiful body of water. I lived in a duplex that was falling apart... it was awesome. It had 12' ceilings, slanted from one side to the other, and looked out over the river--a view unmatched. I had just bought an old Gibson J-45, and still had grandpa's old Martin with me... And i began to write. And write. The songs came with much emotional toil. My heart was split in two, trying to sort out the remnants of a life and love i'd once had. I was trying to put it all together in my mind's eye, and figure out what went wrong... I was trying to go back. I was trying to move on. I was coping with failure as a perfectionist who previously had never given myself the option to fail... I was hurting...and messed up. It was obiously the best time to make a record. In the duplex, there was a room with an old wood stove. The room was awesome for recording vibe and emotion. You could hear the cars driving by. You could hear the rain hitting the porch. You could sense the fog over the waters of the Columbia River. It was so easy to capture it all... And here it is... "Lovely is Death"...the very first time i've worked alone musically in my life. It's naked, honest...gritty. Its a snapshot into my mind during the toughest chapter of my life. I hope you enjoy it, and that you find it as healing as i did.

Car accident

The Listening has just crossed the Montana/Wyoming border on I-90 going east bound. Some of them were sleeping in the back. One of the worst nightmares happened to them. They hit a deer. That would be fine, except this time the airbags are deployed, knocking the hands off the wheel and sending them out of control. They tried their best to regain control. It went so fast. They prayed. The van was being thrown back and forth by the weight of their 8,000 pound trailer full of gear and production. About 3 seconds later, the trailer flipped over, causing their van to whip around 180 degress and then flip. Gabriel was being thrown from the van at 50 mph. He heard the van rolling towards him and when he opened up his eyes he saw he was under the van. He pulled himself from underneath and checked himself out. He had no scratches, except for a mild scrape on his left elbow. He looks into the van and saw Josiah. He was allright just like Chris. The back of the roof was smashed down onto the bed. Eric has a badly sprained ankle and some pulled ligaments in one arm and Adam (tour manager) broke his arm. They are walking miracles and that is the beauty of this story. In the most dangerous time, and the most frightening time, God is with them all. The doctors told them that they were lucky. Jesus was right there with them the whole time.

Touring with the Violet Burning

The Violet Burning is booking a fall tour with the Listening. They are hitting the South and West with them. The Listening will be trying out a lot of the new songs from the album and they are looking for a lot of feedback from the fans to let them know how they're feeling about the songs. After the tour, they'll take the ideas and make the final tweaks and then produce the album. It's the longest process that they've ever spent on an album and they hope that it will be amazing.

An update from the Listening

Since their last blog, they've toured. They've signed with a new label, and are working on writing songs for the next full-length album. They are fleshing out ideas together in what has turned out to be the most laborious, painful, and rewarding writing process ever. It will be the first time they've ever worked with an outside producer before. They've come to the end of their own means, and its time for someone from the outside to push them towards the goal. They'll be heading to Nashville next week to begin pre-production on the new album.

Rock'n Roll Worship Circus becomes the Listening

The Worship Circus has changed their kind of music, and even changed their name. In May 2004, they made an ep. They called it "the Listening EP". It was a collection of songs written from the heart of God to people. It was a step into the unknown. Then they toured, playing the songs from the EP throughout the world, to several different countries and cultures. It was just a prayer. They jumped back into the studio this January, and began recording the songs that would solidify this direction. There was a dramatic shift from "Welcome to the Rock 'n Roll Worship Circus" and "A Beautiful Glow" to now. They knew there was no going back. The Lord was inspiring them in a greater capacity than ever before. The music became more brilliant, much deeper. And the lyrics were something that blew their minds. No longer could they call this "the Rock 'n Roll Worship Circus". This wasn't about the people's heart towards God, this was about His heart towards them. This was about all of us "Listening" to what He had to say. Throughout the Bible, the Lord calls people to a new path, and changes their name. The same for the Worship Circus. Everything that they have walked through as the Rock 'n' Roll Worship Circus has led them to this point. Now, He's opening a new chapter in their lives. This chapter is called, "The Listening". This fall, the Rock 'n' Roll Worship Circus will step into this new chapter. On November 15th, they're releasing their newest record. It is the last record from the Rock 'n' Roll Worship Circus. It is also the first record from The Listening. What’s it called? "the Rock 'n Roll Worship Circus becomes 'the Listening'".
